From March 30 to April 4, Mallorca hosted the World Cup for Olympic sailing classes, including Formula Kite, where Vojtěch Koška and Dominika Braunová from TJ Sailing Pálava competed.
This year, more than 1,100 sailors from 62 countries competed across ten Olympic classes. The Czech team had strong representation, with athletes competing in almost every class.
Vojtěch Koška was the only Czech representative to qualify for Saturday’s final races for the top ten competitors.
“The beginning of the regatta was really unusual. There was a strong and very unstable northern wind, combined with unusually cold weather — around five degrees Celsius in the morning and only ten to fourteen during the day. There was even snow in the mountains of Mallorca. After the first day, I was in sixteenth place, with the fleet being extremely competitive and every small detail making a difference. In the following races, I managed to achieve better results than most of my competitors and gradually moved up the rankings. I entered the final day from ninth place with the goal of fighting for the best possible result. I’m happy that I qualified for the finals, which was one of my main goals. The second goal was to finish among the top eight nations that will secure Olympic qualification from next year’s World Championships — and we achieved that. I see that as a great success. At the same time, I know the regatta could have ended even better. I made a mistake in the quarterfinal that cost me a place in the semifinal. But it also showed us what we still need to work on and where we can improve. Overall, I feel positive about the event. I’m not completely satisfied, but I’m not disappointed either — I see it as a very solid result and an important step forward,” said Vojtěch Koška. said Vojtěch Koška. “Next, we have another World Cup event in Hyères, France, where I want to qualify for the final day again and improve on my result from Mallorca. That will be followed by the World Championships in Portugal,”he revealed his upcoming plans.
Dominika Braunová secured 25th place overall and 14th among the nations, which also keeps her Olympic qualification hopes alive.
